Hillman Garage Construction Update:

Once per week, Conduit Street Will Close to Facilitate Ingress/Egress for Concrete Mixing Trucks

Annapolis, MD (August 26, 2022) – Beginning the week of August 30, 2022, Conduit Street in downtown Annapolis will close one day a week between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. to facilitate the ingress/egress of concrete trucks for the rebuild of the downtown Hillman garage. The weekly closure will happen between the dates of August 30, 2022, and January 30, 2023.

Contractors rebuilding the garage require this closure to quickly move concrete mixing trucks in and out of the job site along Gorman Street in downtown Annapolis. Choosing specific concrete pour days will depend on many factors; daily humidity, heat index, precipitation, and a slew of other factors. The City has asked the contractor to avoid the concrete work on Mondays, which conflicts with refuse and recycling pickups, and Fridays.

The road closure during morning rush hour, coupled with the number of vehicles on these roads during the drop-off times for Annapolis Elementary and St. Mary’s schools, may cause significant delays. We ask residents and visitors to downtown to please be alert to the dates of work and consider sharing rides and allowing themselves plenty of time.

NOTIFICATION: The City of Annapolis will post an alert to the home page of the City website with 24 hours notice (or more) in advance of each specific work day closure. Sign up to receive email notifications of these alerts at www.annapolis.gov/alertcenter/aspx and selecting “Home Page Alerts.”

Currently, the first closure is anticipated for either Wednesday, Aug. 31 or Thursday, Sept. 1, depending on a variety of construction factors, including inclement weather. Please check the City website for updates: www.Annapolis.gov

City Manager Michael Mallinoff thanks the public for their patience during construction. “The new downtown garage will be an amazing asset, with easier parking, more spaces, EV chargers, working elevators and more,” he said. “We have to endure some pain but the benefits will be great.”
